Snap the Cat is a mouse-only game designed around the Steam Deck and simple PC inputs. This guide covers controls, system requirements, and performance for all supported platforms.

Controls overview

Snap the Cat uses a mouse-only interface. There is no keyboard-driven menu navigation and no controller mapping for core gameplay.

There is no time pressure per session. You take as long as you need to compose and capture your photo.

Keyboard shortcuts

The game has minimal keyboard shortcuts:

Escape — open settings menu F — toggle fullscreen (windowed mode only) Tab — toggle photo review screen between sessions

These are the only confirmed keyboard functions. The game is not designed around keyboard use.

The game runs on relatively modest hardware. Integrated graphics are sufficient for basic play, though a discrete GPU improves the photo review screen smoothness.

Steam Deck

Snap the Cat has Steam Deck verified status with touchscreen controls. The touchscreen overlay is well-implemented and allows full play without a mouse. The on-screen buttons include a dedicated photo capture button and a session end button.

Steam Cloud ensures saves sync automatically between Steam Deck and PC.

Mac and Linux

The game has native macOS and Linux builds (depot sizes approximately 668 MB and 651 MB respectively). Players report that the macOS build runs well on M1 and M2 chips. Linux performance is stable on standard distributions with OpenGL 3.0 support.

Note: Snap the Cat does not have Steam Auto-Cloud configured. Use the manual save option in settings to avoid losing progress.

Does the game support ultrawide monitors? Yes. The UI scales to ultrawide resolutions. Photo framing may feel different at extreme aspect ratios.

Is there a photo mode? No dedicated photo mode. Screenshots are taken through Steam overlay (F12) or the OS screenshot function.
