Snap the Cat Biomes Guide

Every location, its bonuses, and how to unlock new biomes.

Last updated:

Biomes are the locations where you photograph cats in Snap the Cat. Each biome has its own cat roster, ambient aesthetic, and photography bonuses. Understanding biome differences is essential for maximising your likes.

How many biomes are there?

The game advertises eight or more biomes. Community playtesting has confirmed at least eight distinct locations, with the Cat Cafe as a special bonus area unlocked through progression rather than follower milestones.

Biome unlock requirements

Biomes are unlocked by follower count rather than story progress:

  • Biome 1 (starting area) — available from the start
  • Biome 2 — approximately 500 followers
  • Biome 3 — approximately 2,000 followers
  • Biome 4 — approximately 5,000 followers
  • Biome 5 — approximately 10,000 followers
  • Biome 6 — approximately 25,000 followers
  • Biome 7 — approximately 50,000 followers
  • Biome 8 — approximately 75,000 followers
  • Cat Cafe — unlocked through a specific quest in the main progression, not a follower milestone

These numbers are based on community reports and may vary slightly.

Ambient bonuses

Each biome has an ambient photography bonus that applies to all photos taken there. Some biomes favour close-up portraits while others reward wide environmental shots. The exact nature of each bonus is still being documented by the community.

Understanding which bonus applies to your preferred photography style can meaningfully improve your average likes per session.

Cat distribution

Each biome has a primary pool of cats. Some cats appear across multiple biomes while others are exclusive to a single location. If you are hunting for a specific cat, check which biome it appears in before spending tokens on packs.

Switching between biomes

You can freely switch between unlocked biomes at any time. There is no penalty for switching. Some players find it helpful to rotate between biomes to maintain a varied photo feed for their followers.

The Cat Cafe

The Cat Cafe is a special biome unlocked through story progression rather than follower count. It features a unique cast of cats with dialogue and personality quirks that are not present in the wild biomes. Players consistently cite the Cafe as a highlight of the full game experience.

For details, see the Cat Cafe guide.

Biome guides

Each biome has its own dedicated page on this wiki with detailed cat lists, photography tips, and specific bonus information. Check the related pages section for individual biome articles.

Frequently asked

Can I revisit earlier biomes after unlocking new ones? Yes. All unlocked biomes remain accessible at any time. There is no lockout.

Are there secret biomes? The Cat Cafe is technically a secret biome as it is not advertised in the main menu. Beyond that, no hidden biomes have been confirmed by the community.

Which biome is best for earning likes? This depends on your current cat roster and skill tree. Early biomes are easier but offer lower base rewards. Late biomes offer higher rewards but require navigating more complex scenes.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Snap the Cat.

Do biome bonuses stack with costume bonuses?

Yes. Biome bonuses, costume bonuses, and cat rarity bonuses all stack additively. The final likes number is the sum of all applicable multipliers.

Can I unlock a biome by buying packs instead of gaining followers?

No. Biome unlocks are strictly follower-gated. Packs can only give you cats and costumes.

Is there a biome that is better for beginners?

The starting biome is the most beginner-friendly. Scenes are simple, cats are plentiful, and the photography challenges are gentle. This is by design.
